Abstract
ABSTRACT
@EN We evaluated bone mineral density in 22 acromegalic patients by dual photon absorptiometry, from March 1985 to March 1990, at the Department of Internal Medicine, Yonsei University, Severance Hospital.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1) Acromegalic patients with hypogonadism (Group A, n=15) and normal gonadal function (Group B, n=7) had no significant differences in sex, age, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase and growth hormone levels.
2) Bone mineral density of Group A was significantly lower in femur neck, Ward's triangle and spine (L2-L4) compared to normal control.
3) Bone mineral density of Group B was higher than that of normal control, but there was no statistical significance.
4) Bone mineral density of group A was significantly lower than that of group B.
5) Compared to Z score of group A (below-1 in spine), Z score of group B above+1 in femur neck, Ward's triangle and trochanter.
From above results, we concluded that bone mineral density in acromegalic patients was significantly influenced by the patient's gonadal status. (J Kor Endocrinol 8:149~156, 1993)
